About This Propofol TCI Simulator
This free online simulator lets you practice target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol using validated pharmacokinetic models. It is designed for anesthesia residents, nurse anesthetists, and medical educators who want to understand how TCI pumps work.
Supported Pharmacokinetic Models
The simulator includes two widely used propofol PK models:
- Marsh model (1991) - a weight-proportional three-compartment model. Uses fixed rate constants with volume of distribution scaled to patient weight. Available with classic (0.26 min-1, Diprifusor) or modified (1.21 min-1) ke0 values.
- Schnider model (1998/1999) - incorporates age, weight, height, and sex into parameter calculations. Uses lean body mass for clearance and age-dependent volume adjustments. Generally considered more accurate across a wider patient population.
How to Use
- Enter patient data: weight, age, height, and sex
- Select a PK model (Marsh or Schnider) and target mode (Cp or Ce)
- Choose drug concentration and syringe volume
- Set your target concentration and start the simulation
- Monitor real-time plasma and effect-site concentrations on the chart
